Overview
Importing 360° media (photos and videos) can sometimes be slow or fail, especially with high-resolution or HDR files. This article explains the most common causes and offers best practices to ensure smooth and efficient imports.
Common Issues
Users may encounter the following difficulties:
- 360° photo or video import gets stuck during processing
- Import speed is very slow
- Errors appear when importing videos
These issues are generally related to file size, encoding settings, or network conditions.
Main Causes
1. Large Files
360° videos, especially in HDR, can be very large and difficult to import efficiently.
2. Extreme Bitrate or Non-Optimized Encoding
Certain encoding settings (very high or very low bitrate, uncommon codecs) can slow down or block processing.
3. Network Limitations
A slow or unstable internet connection significantly impacts import performance. We encourage you to run a connection test (https://www.speedtest.net here, for example) if you suspect a slow network
Best Practices
1. Compress Files
Before importing, reduce file size using tools such as:
- HandBrake
- Adobe Media Encoder
Recommended settings:
- Format: MP4
- Codec: H.264 (recommended) or H.265
- Bitrate: 20 to 50 Mbps depending on desired quality level
2. Optimize Resolution
- Recommended: 4K (4096 x 2048)
- Avoid higher resolutions unless necessary
3. Avoid HDR if Possible
HDR greatly increases file size and processing time. Prefer SDR when HDR is not essential.
4. Improve Network Conditions
- Use a wired connection (Ethernet) if possible
- Avoid importing multiple large files simultaneously
Additional Recommendations
If problems persist:
- Test with a smaller file to validate the workflow
- Share the technical details of the file (resolution, bitrate, codec, size) with support
- Provide a sample file if possible for in-depth analysis
Summary
To optimize 360° media import on Uptale:
- Reduce file sizes
- Use standard encoding (H.264, reasonable bitrate)
- Limit resolution to 4K if possible
- Ensure a stable and fast network connection
These best practices will significantly improve import speed and reliability.
