Note: LMS integration of Uptale experiences can be done in several ways and requires a technical study depending on your LMS. This capability is not enabled by default on licenses. Please contact your account manager to learn more.
Integration Capabilities
Uptale offers several methods to integrate experiences into an existing LMS pathway.
These methods do not provide the same feature coverage and may not be supported by your LMS.
Depending on your needs, we primarily recommend LTI integrations, then xAPI, SSO link, and finally connected SCORM.
-
Simple URL / SSO Link:
- Launch the experience on VR headsets
- Real-time updates of the experience
- Publish a simple experience URL in the LMS.
- With SSO implemented, secure content and authenticated learners
- Without SSO, unsecured content and anonymous learners
- No data is reported back to the LMS
-
LTI:
- Launch the experience on VR headsets
- Real-time updates of the experience
- Support for LTI version 1.3
- Simple configuration
- Secure content on the platform, authenticated learners
- Data reported back to the LMS
-
Connected SCORM:
- Connected SCORM packages cannot be played on VR headsets.
- Language choice cannot be made during playback
- Content updates require exports each time
- Voice recognition is not supported
- Your LMS may also have content size constraints, and VR experiences are generally larger than traditional learning.
- Classic package, integrates with most LMS
- Data reported back to the LMS
-
xAPI:
- Launch the experience on VR headsets
- Real-time updates of the experience
- Synchronized tracking of data in Uptale and in the LRS
- Requires installation of an LRS (Learning Record Store) on your side
- Data reported back to the LMS
-
Custom:
- Depending on your LMS, we can integrate in a customized way
- Content catalog synchronization
- Data reporting
- User authentication, etc.
Simple URL / SSO Link
You just need to copy the URL of the launch page of an experience: Share an experience by URL
If you have SSO implemented, users will then be automatically authenticated.
If you do not have SSO, the content must be public for learners to access it: Public experience
No data can be reported back to the LMS
LTI
Reminder: We only support version 1.3 of the LTI standard.
LTI is a standard supported by some LMS (Moodle, etc.)
Learning Tools Interoperability Core Specification 1.3 | IMS Global Learning Consortium
This allows secure connection of content and acts as SSO with the LMS.
Once the LTI configuration is set up (on the LMS side and on the Uptale side), you just need to publish new LTI-type content in your LMS and set the launch page URL as the Tool URL: Share an experience by URL
Connected SCORM
Uptale experiences can be exported to connected SCORM under certain license conditions and types of experiences.
SCORM is not a recommended format for immersive learning experiences because it does not support many advanced features, interactions, and gamification offered by the Uptale platform and virtual reality.
However, connected SCORM allows easier compatibility with most LMS.
To export, simply go to the experience details page, choose the appropriate export format (SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004), then select the language in which you want to export the content.
xAPI
xAPI is a standard supported by some LMS.
Setting up xAPI integration requires you to set up an LRS (Learning Record Store) that records all corresponding data.
There are several free and open-source options; we specifically recommend using Trax LRS: TRAX LRS• The Progressive LRS
Once the xAPI configuration is set up (on the LMS side and Uptale side), you just need to publish new xAPI/TinCan-type content in your LMS by clicking Download as xAPI
Configuration by link
If your xAPI configuration is by link (e.g., Moodle), copy the URL that appears and add it to your LMS.
Configuration by file
If your xAPI configuration is by file (e.g., Cornerstone), download the provided file and integrate it into your LMS
Custom
As part of a custom integration, we will send you the details on publishing experiences in the LMS. Indeed, this can be automatic and meet all your specific needs.
Note: it is also possible to create registration links by following the steps described in this article, which can be useful depending on your deployment scenario.
Important: To ensure the proper launch of your SCORM file in your LMS, make sure the experience is first published in your Uptale workspace. You will find the steps to follow in our guide: How to publish an experience.
