Pixo is an XR platform, which distributes and launches VR content on headsets; on the Integration tab, Uptale lists it under LMS. With the Pixo integration, a learner who starts a Pixo training can play an Uptale experience (immersive training content) in the Uptale Player app, without signing in to Uptale. This integration is available on request: Uptale sets it up for your organisation's Uptale environment.
About this integration
What you get
- Uptale experiences inside your Pixo catalogue. A Pixo training can be linked to one Uptale experience. When a learner starts it, the experience opens in the Uptale Player app.
- No Uptale sign-in for learners. Learners don't need an Uptale account, password or launch code: Pixo vouches for them.
- Access stays managed in Pixo. A learner can only open the experience if they have access to the linked training in Pixo.
What is tracked, and where
In Uptale, all sessions launched from Pixo are recorded under one Uptale user, the one set in the card: individual learners are not identified in Uptale.
- In Uptale: each session is in the experience's reports, under that user's name. See Data tracked & LMS data.
- In Pixo: Uptale sends no score or result back to Pixo.
The Pixo card
The Pixo card on your environment's Integration tab has one field, under General:
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Uptale Launch User ID | The Uptale user under which every session launched from Pixo is played and recorded. It must be a user of your environment. |
Only Uptale can fill in or change this card. Your Environment Administrator can see it.
How a learner launches an experience
Step by step
- On their device (usually a VR headset), the learner starts the training in Pixo.
- Pixo opens the Uptale Player app, and passes it the training's identifier and a proof that the learner is signed in to Pixo.
- Uptale asks Pixo, with that proof, which Uptale experience the training is linked to. Pixo only answers if the learner has access to the training.
- Uptale checks that the Pixo integration is active in the environment of that experience, and that the user set in the card belongs to it.
- The experience starts in the Uptale Player app, played as the user set in the card.
The learner doesn't see these checks: the experience simply starts, or the app shows An error occurred while loading the experience.
Limits
- No per-learner tracking in Uptale. Every session is recorded under the user set in the card.
- Uptale Player app only. The experience opens in the app, not in a web browser.
- One environment. The linked experiences must be in the environment where the Pixo integration is set up.
- Only published experiences can be played. See Publish an experience.
- Sessions launched from Pixo don't count towards Uptale programs: a program only counts the sessions launched from the program itself.
Set it up
Who does what
| Who | What |
|---|---|
| Your Environment Administrator | Asks support@uptale.io for the Pixo integration, and lists the Uptale experiences to offer in Pixo. |
| Uptale | Turns on the Pixo card for your environment, and fills in the Uptale Launch User ID with you. Gives you the identifier of each Uptale experience to link. |
| In Pixo | Each training is linked to its Uptale experience: the training's external ID (a field of the training in Pixo) holds the identifier of the Uptale experience. Uptale helps you with this step. |
| Your device managers | Install the Uptale Player app on the devices learners use with Pixo. See Install the Uptale Player. |
What you need
- A Pixo account for your organisation, with the trainings to link to Uptale.
- The Uptale experiences to offer, published, in your environment.
- The Uptale Player app on the learners' devices.
Troubleshooting
The Pixo card isn't on the Integration tab
The card only appears once Uptale has turned on the integration for your environment. Write to support@uptale.io.
The app shows "An error occurred while loading the experience"
You see An error occurred while loading the experience. Check that the learner has access to the training in Pixo, that the training's external ID holds the right Uptale experience identifier, and that the experience is published. If it still fails, write to support@uptale.io with the name of the Pixo training.
Nothing happens when the learner starts the training in Pixo
Install the Uptale Player app on the device, or update it. See Install the Uptale Player.
I can't find a learner's session in Uptale's reports
Sessions launched from Pixo are recorded under the user set in the Uptale Launch User ID field, not under the learner's name. Look for that user in the experience's reports.
