Inversive is an XR platform, which distributes and launches VR content on headsets; on the Integration tab, Uptale lists it under LMS. The Inversive integration connects the Inversive platform to your organisation's Uptale environment with LTI 1.3 (Learning Tools Interoperability, the standard that lets a learning platform open external tools). Learners open Uptale experiences (immersive training content) from Inversive without a separate Uptale password or account to create, and their score goes back to Inversive. Uptale sets it up for your environment.
About this integration
What it does
- Learners sign in once. They open the experience from Inversive, already identified. Their Uptale account is created at their first launch, with access to the experience they opened.
- Content is picked from Inversive. A selection window lists the published experiences of the Uptale workspaces (groups of experiences) the person adding the content manages in Uptale.
- Inversive stays in sync. When an experience is updated or deleted in Uptale, Uptale notifies Inversive (title, description, thumbnail, publication state), and learners always play the latest published version.
- Workspaces can follow your Inversive groups. With the Workspace auto-binding settings option, Uptale creates and links a workspace for each of your Inversive groups automatically. Members of a group who open Uptale from Inversive get the Creator and Trainer roles on its workspace, so they can build experiences there and add them in Inversive.
What goes back to Inversive
When a learner's session ends (they finish or close the experience), Uptale sends Inversive a score, with the activity marked as completed. The score is the number of stars the learner won, out of the stars available in the experience: its creator sets them with the experience's objectives (see Objectives, stars & success score).
Inversive only receives this summary. The detailed results (path, answers, session reports) stay in Uptale's reports: see Data tracked & LMS data.
What you need
- An Inversive account for your organisation.
- An Uptale environment, with the experiences to offer published in its workspaces.
- For the people who add Uptale content in Inversive: an Uptale role that lets them give access to the workspace, such as Trainer or Workspace Administrator. See Roles & permissions.
Set it up
How the setup works
The Inversive card is set up by Uptale: on the card, your Environment Administrator sees To set up this integration, please contact support@uptale.io. The connection settings between the two platforms are known to Uptale: your team doesn't register addresses by hand.
- Your Environment Administrator contacts support@uptale.io to connect your Inversive account.
- Uptale configures the card and confirms when it's active.
What to prepare
- The Inversive account to connect, and your contact at Inversive.
- Whether Uptale should link workspaces to your Inversive groups automatically (Workspace auto-binding settings).
- The people who will add Uptale content in Inversive, so they get the right role in Uptale.
Use it
Add an experience in Inversive
- In Inversive, add Uptale content. The Uptale selection window opens.
- Choose a workspace under Available workspaces, pick the experience, then click Select.
Note: Only published experiences are listed, and only in the workspaces where you can give access in Uptale.
How learners launch an experience
Learners open the Uptale content in Inversive. The experience's launch page opens, with the learner already signed in to Uptale; from there, they play in their web browser, or on a VR headset with the experience launch code shown on the page. Inversive can also start the experience directly in the Uptale Player app on the learner's device, with the learner identified the same way: see Install the Uptale Player.
Limits
- Only published experiences can be added and played. See Publish an experience.
- Sessions launched from Inversive don't count towards Uptale programs: a program only counts the sessions launched from the program itself.
Troubleshooting
The Inversive card says to contact support@uptale.io
You see To set up this integration, please contact support@uptale.io. This is expected: Uptale sets up this integration. Write to support@uptale.io.
The selection window lists no workspace or no experience
You don't have a role that lets you give access to the workspace in Uptale, or its experiences aren't published. Ask your Uptale administrator for the Trainer or Workspace Administrator role on the workspace, and check that its experiences are published.
"Session has expired or was not launched correctly"
You see Session has expired or was not launched correctly. Please try again. The selection window stays valid for one hour after it's opened from Inversive. Close it and open it again.
A learner sees "Oops, unauthorized access"
The experience isn't published, or was deleted in Uptale. Publish it again, or replace the content in Inversive.
