The Rise Up integration connects your Rise Up platform to your organisation's Uptale environment with LTI 1.3 (Learning Tools Interoperability, the standard that lets an LMS open external tools). Uptale becomes an external tool in Rise Up: course designers add Uptale experiences (immersive training content) as a step, learners open them from Rise Up without a separate Uptale password, and their score goes back to Rise Up. Rise Up has no card of its own in Uptale: it uses Uptale's LTI 1.3 integration, which Uptale sets up for your environment, with your Rise Up administrator.
Module steps›Uptale (Rise Up, to add an experience)
About this integration
What it does
- Course designers pick Uptale content from Rise Up. In a Rise Up module, a new Uptale step lists the published experiences of the Uptale workspaces (groups of experiences) chosen during the setup.
- Learners sign in once. They open the Uptale step from Rise Up and arrive on the experience's launch page, already identified. Their Uptale account is created at their first launch, with the Learner role on those workspaces.
- Always up to date. Rise Up links to the experience in Uptale: when a creator publishes a new version, learners get it with nothing to upload again.
What goes back to Rise Up
When a learner's session ends, Uptale sends Rise Up a score, with the step marked as completed. The score is the number of stars the learner won, out of the stars available in the experience. Rise Up only receives this summary: the detailed results stay in Uptale's reports. For the details, see LTI 1.3 and Data tracked & LMS data.
What you need
- A Rise Up administrator who can open the platform settings and add an external tool under LTI Advantages.
- The list of Uptale workspaces whose experiences Rise Up should offer.
- The redirect URI for your environment, given by Uptale.
Set it up
How the setup works
- Your Environment Administrator contacts support@uptale.io to connect Rise Up, with the workspaces to open to it. Uptale sends back the redirect URI for your environment.
- Your Rise Up administrator adds Uptale as an external tool (step 1).
- Your Rise Up administrator sends the credentials Rise Up generated to Uptale (step 2).
- Uptale finishes the configuration and confirms when it's active. Only then can Rise Up modules use Uptale.
Step 1: add Uptale as an external tool in Rise Up
- In Rise Up, go to Platform settings › LTI Advantages › Add an external tool (in French: Paramètres de la plateforme › LTI Advantages › Ajouter un outil externe). A form opens to describe the external tool.
- Fill in the fields as below, then click Save (Sauvegarder).
Field names are given in English, with the French label as labelled in Rise Up in brackets.
| Field (as labelled in Rise Up) | Value |
|---|---|
| Name (Nom) | Uptale, or any name you like |
| Description | Free text, for example: Uptale, the XR spatial learning solution to create immersive training from 360° photos and videos. |
| Logo | Optional |
| Target link URI | https://my.uptale.io |
| Redirect URI (URI de redirection) | Provided by Uptale: it is specific to your environment |
| Preferred launch mode (Mode de lancement à privilégier) | New window (Nouvelle fenêtre) |
| Supports deep linking (Supporte le deep linking) | Yes (Oui) |
| Content selection endpoint (Endpoint de sélection de contenu) | https://my.uptale.io/lti/deeplinkselect |
| Share launcher's name with tool | Always (Tout le temps): required for the integration to work |
| Share launcher's email with tool | Always (Tout le temps) |
Note: The addresses above are those of Uptale's EU instance. If your environment is on the US instance, replace https://my.uptale.io with https://my.us.uptale.io in every address. See Hosting: EU and US instances.
Step 2: send Rise Up's credentials to Uptale
- Once the tool is saved, Rise Up generates a client ID for Uptale. It shows on the new Uptale card in Rise Up.
- Go to Platform settings › LTI Advantages, find Uptale in the list of connections and click View credentials (Voir les identifiants).
- Send all the information displayed to support@uptale.io.
- Wait for Uptale to confirm that the configuration is active before adding Uptale content to your modules.
Use it
Add an experience to Rise Up
- In Rise Up, open the steps of the module where you want the experience.
- Add a step of the new Uptale type (or the name you gave the tool).
- In the content selection, choose the experience. It lists the published experiences of the workspaces chosen during the setup.
- Click Save (Sauvegarder).
Set the experience's objectives and stars before adding it: they make the score sent back to Rise Up. See Objectives, stars & success score.
How learners launch an experience
Learners open the Uptale step in Rise Up. The experience's launch page opens in a new window, with the learner already signed in to Uptale. From there, they play in their web browser, or on a VR headset with the experience launch code shown on the page: see All the ways to play.
Limits
- Only published experiences of the workspaces chosen during the setup can be added and played. See Publish an experience.
- Workspaces added later only apply to new connections. People who already came from Rise Up before a workspace was added don't get it automatically: an administrator gives them access from the workspace's Access management tab.
- Sessions launched from Rise Up don't count towards Uptale programs: a program only counts the sessions launched from the program itself.
Troubleshooting
The Uptale step doesn't appear in Rise Up
The setup isn't finished yet. Check that the tool is saved and listed under Platform settings › LTI Advantages, that you sent all the information from View credentials to support@uptale.io, and that Uptale has confirmed the configuration is active.
Learners see an error when they open the experience
Check the tool's settings in Rise Up against step 1:
- Share launcher's name with tool and Share launcher's email with tool are set to Always (Tout le temps).
- The Redirect URI is exactly the one Uptale gave for your environment.
- Every address uses your instance:
https://my.uptale.io(EU) orhttps://my.us.uptale.io(US).
If the learner sees Oops, unauthorized access, the experience isn't published or the learner has no access to its workspace: see LTI 1.3 troubleshooting.
The experience list is empty when I add a step
The workspaces chosen during the setup have no published experience. Ask a creator to publish the experience, or ask support@uptale.io to add the workspace that contains it.
Scores don't come back to Rise Up
The score is sent when the learner's session ends, and only if the experience has stars to win. For the other causes, see LTI 1.3 troubleshooting.
